Another Day with Sarah Dumont

Sarah Dumont, by Brandon Kidd So today, we present you our editorial with the lovely Sarah Dumont. She is the kind of gal we want to hang out with. For the day that we spent with her, she was a lot of fun - especially with the addition of her sweet dog Kingston! He really knows how to charm a camera, too.

Your career is really on the rise. You recently had a role in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut "Don Jon." How have you been handling the rush? I don't think it's really sunk in yet. I'm just having fun living role to role.

Do you use boxing as a stress relief? How long have you been doing it for? Definitely. I've always had an aggressive personality and boxing allows me to let it all our and keep centered. I have been boxing off and on since my early teens and I think it's something I will always do.

Are there any other exercises you do as hobbies? I love to walk places instead of driving and dive into a pool and take a swim whenever I can. I do do a lot of different activities and hit the gym to stay fit, but I wouldn't exactly count then as hobbies.

I see a lot of plants around your home! Are you an outdoors person? Yes and no. I love being outside in the sun and surrounded by greenery and water, but once the temperature drops I'm back inside.

Of course I have to ask about your sweet dog! What’s its name? His name is Kingston! He's a little over two-year-old and even though he thinks he's human, he is actually a Pitt Bull. My boyfriend and I adopted him in March and wasted no time spoiling him!

How do you spend the days with your dog? What do you guys do for fun?

He follows us wherever we go around the house and the neighborhood. He likes to play fetch, tag, hide and go seek, but he's more of a cuddle bug than anything else. We're still working on getting him to behave on the leash but he's great off leash at Runyon and the dog park.

Tell us about your personal style. How would you describe it? I guess you could say its a bit grunge or rock n' roll but it's really all about comfort for me. All my clothes are interchangeable, My closet is one big collage if black, greys, leather, denim, and flannels. I like being able to go in my closet, throw on whatever I see first and go.

Winter is almost here...kind of! Well, Los Angeles is a tad bit indecisive. Are you eying any pieces to add to your wardrobe?

I live in LA so usually winter means a new hoodie, but I'm spending almost a month in Washington state this winter to help with my older brother's wedding. I'm definitely on the look out for some extra long, extra wide, heavy knit scarfs that I can wrap abound me like a giant knit Hijab.

What’s in store acting-wise? What’s next for you?

I am really excited for pilot season to start after the holidays and as of right now I'm on set filming an episode of Fox's new sitcom "Dads" which should air early next year.

The Home of Pom Klementieff

Zooey Magazine, Pom Klementieff Pom Klementieff is an incredible human who has lived a very interesting life. Having recently moved to Los Angeles has allowed for this French-Korean-Russian actress more opportunities in the industry, including a role in Spike Lee's recent "Old Boy" film.

Today, we are honored to share you our day with Pom in her Los Angeles home. We loved every minute of it.

For your wardrobe I see lots of patterns, like polka dots and floral designs. How would you describe your style?

I'm versatile. It depends on my mood! Sometimes I will wear an Equipment top with colorful pattern because it's more playful, sometimes I will wear an ACNE jacket with badass leather biker boots by Fiorentini Baker and Rag&Bone jeans. I just learned how to tie a bow tie at Theory store, where I bought 2 shirts and 2 bow ties! Also I love to mix Zara, Topshop and H&M with more expensive brands.

The multi-tone hair is so cute! What inspired the hair color?

Thanks! I did it for a movie. "Hacker's Game" by Cyril Morin. I had to play a computer hacker kind of punk. So I decided to dye it purple. I thought it would bring a grunge and futuristic vibe. I kept it since! I go to Goodform Salon on Fairfax cross Melrose. My hairdresser is Jay Diola and he's amazing.

Awesome bike! How long have you been riding motorcycles? How did you find a love for them?

I always had a scooter (sky blue Vespa) in Paris. When I moved to LA I didn't have any driver's license so I bought a moped (Tomos). It's so rare in LA that people were looking at me like a weirdo and constantly ask me questions about the motor, how fast it goes etc. I have a driver's license now and a motorcycle license! I will buy a vintage customized badass motorcycle next time I get a role. Looking forward to do road trips with it.

Speaking of loves – how’d you fall in love with acting? How did your career get started?

I took acting lessons when I was 19 and I loved it. I felt good on stage, I felt warm. The connection with the audience is magical. You can move people, make them laugh. Never be afraid to be ridiculous. Take risks! After a few months, I won a theater competition. Then I got my first role and my first agent. That's how I got started.

The egg chair swing is really neat! I love it! Where did you find that?

Maison Bertet on Beverly Boulevard. All my patio furniture comes from this store. I had a crush on this egg chair. I feel like in a nest when I'm in it.

Where do you like to shop for your home? Do most of your pieces come from a specific place or is your décor more eclectic?

I got my green armchairs, coffee table and mirror from New Orleans when I was shooting "Oldboy." I fell in love with La Belle Nouvelle Orleans, an antique store on Magazine Street. I had really nice conversations with the owner. He comes from Argentina and he was telling me stories about the furniture while I was playing with his dog in the store. I shipped furniture from New Orleans to Los Angeles even before having visited the apartment in LA that I was supposed to live in! Every furniture in this store has a soul. I mixed it with stuff from Ikea and CB2.

I saw that you had a ‘Wes Anderson’ book? Is he your favorite director?

I love this director. His movies are so charming, original, funny and poetic. The cover of the book was so pretty that I bought it immediately.

Tell us more about your acting resume (The latest addition being Spike Lee’s "Oldboy"). What kind of roles have you played? What is your favorite role to date?

I have played many different roles. I have been a nomad in Oriental Siberia riding reindeers and horses, I have been a computer hacker kind of punk, a bodyguard/lover in "Oldboy" by Spike Lee. Each experience has been important and leaded to the other one. Working in the US and with Spike Lee in particular changed a lot for me because it was my dream of course, and I got an O1 Visa thanks to the movie. It gave me the opportunity to move to the US. The better is yet to come!

The Home of Jake McDorman

Jake McDorman Jake McDorman is a man of style, and certainly the best kind. This 27-year-old Texas native is going to be seen in one of our favorite shows "Shameless," which premieres its newest season on January 12, 2014. Luckily, he allowed for us to come to his Los Angeles home and document our visit. So today, we present you another day with Jake McDorman.

Really nice pad! What stood out to you the most about the place when you first visited it? Thank you! The floor plan, probably. I like a lot of space in every direction including upwards. So the way the place is laid out definitely appealed to me. That and it had a lot of potential for remodeling. I put a ton of work into the place over the course of four or five months to make it the way it is now, so. I saw promise. It was a project.

Jake McDorman

Do you have a favorite area in the house?

I have a few. We tore down the kitchen entirely. Everything in there is a choice I made at one point or another. Cabinets, countertops, paint colors, backsplash, you name it. Plus it’s where the food is. I’ve always liked being in the kitchen. At the same time, I like the living area in front of the fire place too. It’s the floor plan! Everything’s very open and connected. This is also the first place I’ve lived where I spend a lot of time in my bedroom. Don’t take that out of context...

How’s your cooking? What’s your favorite thing to make? I love to cook. I have a cast iron skillet that I use to cook pretty much anything. I grew up in TX so I’m from a meat and potatoes household. Not too much has changed. Except quinoa. That’s LA’s contribution. Quinoa.

I can sense the Texan, southern feel to it. How would you describe the style? Really? That’s interesting. One of my best friends who lives in Austin, TX came up with the idea for putting the reclaimed wood on the wall above the fire place. I guess it feels southern in some ways. There’s a lot of reclaimed wood. Not just over the fire place. When I started I was thinking industrial. It kind of evolved into a rustic hybrid of industrial and farmhouse maybe. I like things that look old and broken in. And I like using living materials. Wood, iron, limestone.

Jake McDorman

Do you have a favorite place to shop for furniture? Where did you get some of these pieces (like the crescent moon fixture)? There’s a lot of great places to shop in LA. HD Buttercup, Cleveland Art, West Elm, Restoration. There’s reclaimers in Simi Valley and other places if you want to get creative. Flea Markets are great. The Rosebowl flea market is where I got the crescent moon and a few other things. My coffee table was made by a guy I met at the Rosebowl. Etsy...there’s a lot.

What’s your morning routine like? Any rituals we normally wouldn't think of? Morning routine? The only thing routine about my morning is waking up at some ungodly hour of my cat’s choosing and giving him food. Weird rituals...I read almost every script I get on the couch listening to Ella Fitzgerald & Louie Armstrong Pandora and a pack of American Spirits. That’s not that weird, but hours before the audition I’ll go over my lines in the bathroom with the shower water running. That’s weird. I’ve always done that too. Something about the running water keeps me focused. I should probably get a little fountain. I’d get a lot more done...

Jake McDorman

Now say you have come home with a fresh script, like one for "Shameless." Do you go straight into studying or do you read for your own entertainment first? Well for "Shameless" definitely for my own entertainment first, are you kidding? I’m current now! When I booked the show I hadn’t seen an episode. Over the hiatus I had the pleasure of binge watching all 3 seasons in a row. I read the script immediately to find out what the hell happens next. But that goes for any script. You can’t start studying until you read it anyway. You read the story and then decide if it’s a story you’re excited to help tell.

And the question everyone always wants to know – Any pets? Dog person or cat person or iguana person? I have a cat named Mr. Boo. He’s a snowshoe, he’s about 18lbs, and he acts like a dog. He talks constantly and is very social. He’s pretty well known amongst my friends and now that I have Vine and Instagram I’m sure he’ll gain a following soon enough. I grew up with dogs and cats though. I love both. If I had enough space I’d have a dog too.

Jake McDorman

Let’s talk wardrobe for a second. Is your clothing style similar to your home style? A friend of mine just the other day saw my place for the first time and told me it dresses the same way I do. I can see the similarities for sure. It goes back to liking things that look lived in. Broken in already. Vintage. All that jazz. I’ve shopped for clothes at the same places I shop for furniture many times.

Take us back to when you were younger. Did you ever picture yourself living the life you have now? I’ve known I wanted to act for a long time. Since I was very little. When I was younger…I think I always hoped I’d be able to live a life fairly similar to the one I’m living now. But your ideas evolve as you do, right? So if you ask me this again in 10 years, I’ve got much to do for the answer to be still be yes.
