Yarn Wall DIY

One of our newest, talented contributors Amanda Marie sent us this fun DIY that we just couldn't resist sharing. If your walls are looking lonely, how about tossing some yarn on it? We're serious. Pick a favorite quote, and we're going to create it in yarn for your wall!

Draw out the letters you need to spell out the words on your wall on paper. We free handed ours because we wanted it to have a free spirited look, but another great way is to print out letters of a fun font you love and trace them from there! Once you’ve drawn out the letter, make small dots of each corner of the letter (which will help you to know where to mark your nails on the wall).

Cut out the letters and tape them to the wall in the order you’d like them.

Nail the small nails on the same spot where you marked the corners & edges of the letters with the small dots. Be sure not to hammer them all the way into your wall, as you’ll need something for the yarn to grab onto.

Tear off the paper and begin to wrap the yarn around the nails to outline the letter you drew! There is no rhyme or reason to the way you string the yarn around the nails. You may even discover a pattern that you like, and if you make up your own, we'd love to see it! And if you notice the letter isn’t turning out to look like the actual letter you traced, that means you missed marking a corner somewhere. Just hold the paper letter back up to the wall and see what corner you’re missing.
