Salvation Mountain was a humbling experience, but for a different reason than the Grand Canyon. Here you are in this small, arguably not the most attractive city in the desert of California, and there's this quirky, strange, stunning and powerful art installation to which thousands of people travel to each year. Being able to see and feel Leonard Knight’s passion for his beliefs was awe-inspiring. Can you imagine waking up every day and pouring all of your physical and emotional energy in to painting the desert, and for no immediate or tangible gain? As much as I'd like to say I can imagine it, I don't know if I can. Being around passionate people is one of the most inspiring things to me, and even though we weren't able to meet Knight, his spirit was intertwined throughout it all.
Our next destination was white sands but we made an event-less stop in Tucson for the night. See tomorrow for our Tuscon adventure!
